Staples gift cards ---- any denomination is helpful.

Checks (any amount helps) -- make your tax deductible donation to the "Santa Monica Science Magnet," put "Room 73" on the memo line and have your child bring it to me.

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the 2008/2009 school year. I am very excited about the Science Program for this year and look forward to working with your children.

A couple of points should be emphasized:

It is especially important that your child do his or her homework the day it is assigned and come to class prepared, ready to work and with all work materials. All homework is due the next class session after it is assigned. If your child is absent or has special needs, adjustments will be made. If your child doesn't understand an assignment or was absent, they should come in after school for some extra assistance.

Your child has an Assignment Record for Science in his or her notebook. This record will enable your child to keep track of his or her assignments and the grades they are receiving. Every homework grade less than a perfect score can be improved. Your child needs to redo any missed problems on a separate paper, showing all work, and then turn in this improved paper. This procedure will allow your child to receive additional credit for their extra effort and this extra effort should translate into greater understanding of the important science concepts.

Please ask you child to show your their Assignment Record. Please encourage them to improve their scores, where appropriate, and to come in for extra help when they are not understanding their science work. I am usually here right after school for a short time almost every day and encourage the students to make an appointmnet if they need extended assistance.

Please keep up with your child's grade by checking the Pinnacle Grade Viewer. If you do not know how to do this, your child can show you or you can call the Counselor's Office for directions. Also, your child should be bringing home every graded Assignment Record and Quiz/Test for your signature. If you do not receive these about every week and a half, I suggest you have a conversation with your child about this. Sending home graded materials for your signature is one way that I try to keep you informed about your child's progress in Science.
